Boots – Eventually rebuilt – Unit 2
One of three shops for Buyrite – finally closed in 2023 at their premises in Station Road.
Launderama – Unit 4 (been here since 1967) and right, at Unit 5 –Bangwagon musical instruments. (formerly David Buswell, TV & Hi-Fi supplier)
Dowson & Gillard carpet shop – The shop on the right was the Guests Garden Store
Going Places – Acquired by Thomas Cook in 2007
The former Discotrak/What Records shop during the 1980s and 1990s – Unit 9.
Scope charity shop – Still going at Unit 21, in Talisman Square (almost dead opposite)
Browsers Books -presently Kenilworth Books – Unit 12. (A book shop of varying names, has been here for over 50 years)
May Vaughan salon – lasted until 2023 – Unit 13.
Unit 14 – Astral Computers
Charles Ager – Still going strong today in Talisman Square – Helped, no doubt, by the closure of Clarks in 2021.
Juteronomy – Unit 21 – Moved to Warwick Road
The Rocking Horse – Been at Unit 22, for over 40 years and counting…..
Unknown shop – Unit 23 – Do you know what it may have been ?
Clarks Shoes – Closed in 2021 – Unit 24. (Formerly Margaret Hall cakes)
Something Special – Now Every Occasion – Unit 25

      Sorry to say that I have no idea what the shop next door to the Rocking Horse.
      I’d really like to know myself, just from the historical point of view.

  1. I think unit 23 used to be the three cooks bakery back in the day, it used to be a regional chain of bakers around the midlands. Think it closed before 2010. If you search for images on what the three cooks used to look like, their shop frontage is similar to what unit 23 is. I do remember going to this branch of three cooks as a child

      Sorry for not getting back to to earlier.

      That’s for that information, I certainly cant remember the Three Cooks at all.

      Looking back even further, the Kelly’s directory of 1969, indicates that Units 22/23 were occupied by Calland & Holtom, home furnishers. Margeret Hall was next door at unit 24.

      I’ll look into the Three Cooks and see what I can find.
