INDEPENDENT DAY
Following the introduction of the ward system last year, (and the shenanigans that occured) not surprisingly, annual elections returned again this year. Four members were chosen to ‘retire’, these being: Ackerman, Gee, Hiorns and Faxon. Two were re-elected but two lost their seats.
Lily Randall, who regained her seat which she had lost in last year’s election, defeated Mr Faxon by a slender 24 votes. Frank Weetman is a new member to the council.
The declaration by returning officer Mr Whittaker came at 9.15pm, only one hour and fifteen minutes after the poll had finished at 8 o’clock.
